Beet leaves. Bitten & Backlit.

Beet leaves boast stunning purple and green colors.  The intricate constellation of insect bites adds a texture evoking Corinthian columns or even the arabesques of the Alhambra that sometimes let light through the canopies. When backlit, however, the elaborate siluettes turn into shadow puppetry, reminiscent of the Wayang Kulit Gunungan or tree of life, “representing the world and its content.”
